How This Calculation Works

Worked Real-World Example
A parcel measuring 20″ × 16″ × 12″ = 3,840 cu in with an actual scale weight of 18 lbs. Using the standard commercial DIM divisor of 139: DIM weight = 3,840 ÷ 139 = 27.63 lbs (rounded up to 28 lbs billable). The carrier bills at 28 lbs rather than the 18 lb actual weight, adding 10 lbs of billed freight.
